US Senators

The United States Senate is the upper chamber of the United States Congress. In addition to passing laws, the United States Senate exercises unique powers of advice and consent. That means that the Senate ratifies treaties and confirms appointments made by the President to offices such as the Supreme Court, Cabinet Secretaries, federal judges, and ambassadors. The Senate is composed of two Senators for each state and is presided over by the Vice President, who only votes in cases of a tie. Senators serve staggered six-year terms. Thirty-three positions are up for election in 2018. One of the Senators from Texas will be elected.

US Representatives

The United States House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the United States Congress. In addition to passing laws, the House of Representatives starts all bills related to revenue or the government budget.  The House of Representatives also has the power to impeach federal officers. The House of Representatives is currently composed of 435 representatives and presided over by the Speaker of the House. Representatives represent congressional districts that are allocated across the states based on the US census every ten years. Representatives serve for two-year terms. All four hundred thirty-five positions are up for election in 2018, and two of them represent parts of Fort Bend County.
